Ground truthing is a critical process

Ground truthing is a critical process that ensures the accuracy of remote sensing data by comparing it with real-world observations. Through its #WeMAST project, SASSCAL is committed to empowering communities across Southern Africa in effectively validating Earth Observation (EO) data, specifically in wetland monitoring and assessment.
Over 25 key stakeholders from the Okavango River Basin were trained in ground truthing techniques for EO data validation in Botswana (20-22 August, 2024). This training was made possible through the generous funding from the African Union & the European Commission, further strengthening the region’s capacity to manage its vital ecosystems.
